Starhawk's Bio Page

Starhawk is a writer, teacher, activist, and Witch who has been a long-term leading voice in the Goddess movement. She is the author of The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religions of the Great Goddess (San Francisco: HarperCollins, 1978, 1989), Dreaming the Dark (Boston: Beacon, 1982), Truth of Dare: Encounters with Power, Authority and Mystery (San Francisco: HarperCollins, 1987), Walking to Mercury (New York: Bantam, 1997), and coauthor of The Pagan Book of Living and Dying (San Francisco: HarperSanFrancisco, 1997). She travels widely in North America and Europe teaching and lecturing. She is a founding member of Reclaiming, a network of communities committed to linking Goddess spirituality and work for social change, and writes a regular column for the Reclaiming Quarterly.

Starhawk collaborated with director Donna Read on the Women and Spirituality series for the National Film Board of Canada. She and Donna Read are currently working on a film biography of Marija Gimbutas, the archaeologist who did groundbreaking work on the Goddess cultures of old Europe.

Starhawk has four grown stepdaughters, all of whom are a credit to their upbringing, although she can claim very little of that credit for herself. She has two step-grandchildren and has lived collectively for over fifteen years, participating in the joys and cares of the lives of many Goddesschildren.

She lives most of the time now in a small hut in the woods, which only occasionally revolves on chicken legs and is not, alas, made of gingerbread.

Information on her schedule, travels, and projects can be found through Starhawk’s website.
